A Journey of Education and Mastery in Art

From an early age, Nathan Lorenzana showed an innate affinity for art, immersing himself in the world of drawing and visual expression from his earliest childhood years. His formal art education began at age 11 when he had the opportunity to study with prominent art masters for three consecutive years, exploring techniques in oil and dry pastel. At the tender age of 14, his talent was already so evident that one of his drawings was selected and published in the renowned Game Pro magazine, marking the beginning of his recognition in the art world.

During his university studies in Graphic Design, Lorenzana demonstrated his academic excellence by graduating Cum Laude with 100 points in his thesis, standing out for his dedication and exceptional ability. During this period (2005-2008), he collaborated with Dr. Sabrina Castillo Gallusse, director of Momentum, a contemporary dance company, where he worked on lighting, set design, and graphic designer for “Super Héroes Remix” merging his passion for visual art with the world of entertainment.

Additionally, upon completing his university studies in 2005, he worked for the renowned Saúl E. Méndez, leading the entire graphic design department for the GuateÁmala Project.

After completing his university education, Lorenzana became a lecturer at three prestigious Universities in Guatemala City, teaching a variety of subjects ranging from Graphic Expression to Alternative Media Design, leaving a lasting impression on the minds and hearts of his students over a period of seven years. Additionally, it is worth noting that during this time he was considered for a thesis presentation at Rafael Landívar University, demonstrating his outstanding academic ability and impact in the university setting.

Parallel to his academic career, Lorenzana began to forge his path in the world of art, presenting his photorealistic works created with pencil and pen at an inaugural exhibition in 2013. This technique became his signature, captivating audiences with his ability to capture the essence of reality with astonishing precision. In the same year, he was hired by Pilot to work on an exclusive piece for their 2014 catalog, highlighting his recognition and demand in the art world.

In 2014, a student from the Faculty of Graphic Design at Rafael Landívar University wrote their thesis on Lorenzana's work, highlighting the influence and relevance of his work in the academic field.

In 2015, Lorenzana collaborated with the renowned company Quick Photo Guatemala in the creation of the 2016 calendar, where each month featured one of his pen works, showcasing his ability to blend art with everyday life.

In 2019, Nathan had the honor of meeting María Conchita Alonso, his favorite singer since childhood, which was a dream come true. His girlfriend Andrea, his current partner, managed through a friend to have a few minutes of conversation and photographs with the artwork he worked on with colored pencils.

In 2019, Nathan founded his own Art Studio “Estudio 90 Grados” with his Girlfriend in Guatemala, offering classes and tutorials to a growing community of amateur artists and enthusiastic students. Before the country closed due to the pandemic, the studio had reached so many great students, all eager to learn from Lorenzana's unique method, experience and skill.

During 2020, Lorenzana was interviewed by the Guatevisión Channel about his artistic work and his Estudio 90 Grados, Art Studio, showing how he continued to inspire others even in difficult times.

Currently, Lorenzana works with personalized tutorials, providing individualized attention to each student to help them develop their artistic skills to their fullest potential. Additionally, he plans to start in-person group courses in mid-2024, offering more people the opportunity to learn and grow under his expert guidance.

Nathan's impact on the art world is undeniable, so much so that Wikipedia recognizes him as an integral part of ballpoint pen art history. His influence extends beyond the boundaries of traditional art, being interviewed on multiple occasions and honored with the opportunity to create a piece to commemorate Guatemala's Bicentennial in 2021. This work was exhibited on the facade of the National Palace, broadcasted on television and web by the Ministry of Culture, highlighting his position as a prominent figure in the country's artistic landscape.

Today, Nathan embarks on a fascinating exploration of the interaction between realistic human figures and fantasy. His artworks feature female subjects intertwined with the world of video games, exploring the fusion of the real and the imaginary in a unique and provocative way. His ability to infuse elements of pop culture into his art, from comics to movies and video games, gives him a universal appeal that resonates with audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
